Dehradun, 25 Sep: Doon University organised a one-day hands-on instrumental training programme for young researchers under the scientific social responsibility initiative sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology’s PERS scheme. This programme is part of the university’s ambitious community engagement plan, ‘Doon Sarthi’. To provide experiential education, Doon University continuously conducts various programmes of this nature. In this series, this training programme was conducted for undergraduate and postgraduate students from various educational institutions in Uttarakhand. As many as 40 students participated from different institutions across the state. During this program, participants gained knowledge about key instruments used in research, including UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Chemical Vapor Deposition system, Thermal Evaporation, and Electrochemical Workstation.
Presiding over the training camp, Dean of Student Welfare, Prof HC Purohit emphasised the importance of innovative, original, and creative thinking in research. He stated that research means seeing what everyone has seen and thinking what no one has thought. Encouraging young researchers to foster their curiosity and creativity, he noted that such practical training programmes not only enhance students’ skills but also promote a sense of responsibility towards social challenges. This initiative, which integrates practical experiences with community engagement, will assist in making them skilled professionals and responsible citizens.
During the inauguration ceremony, various eminent experts from different fields shared their experiences and knowledge, providing students with invaluable insights into cutting-edge research tools.
The Chief Guest Prof Rajendra P Mamgai, Head of the Faculty of Social Sciences, highlighted the significant role of human resource development in promoting a lifelong learning spirit. Alongside him, Dr Arun Kumar, Dr Charu Dwivedi, Dr Himani Sharma, Dr Sarita Singh, Dr Khushboo Singh, Dr Shivani Verma, Dr Aasharam Gairola, and Dr Sunita Naithani, among other faculty members, addressed young researchers and provided detailed instructions on the use of various instruments throughout the day in the laboratory.
