Nainital, 29 Apr: The Uttarakhand High Court today heard petitions filed by several candidates challenging the revision of the answer key in the selection process for 1,341 Assistant Teacher LT Grade posts, released by the Uttarakhand Subordinate Selection Commission (UKSSSC). Taking serious note of the matter, a single bench of Justice Ravindra Maithani extended the stay on the revised answer key.

During the hearing, the court directed the Secretary of UKSSSC to appear via video conferencing to clarify the discrepancies in the revised answer key. Complying with the order, the UKSSSC Secretary attended the session virtually but failed to provide a satisfactory response when asked whether the questions had been framed according to the prescribed syllabus.

The petitioners had challenged 13 questions in the examination conducted by UKSSSC. The court also directed HNB Central University and the Secretary of CBSE to examine seven of these questions and form a committee of subject experts to determine the correct answers. The committee has been given three weeks to submit its report to the court.

The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for 23 May. Petitioners Naveen Singh Aswal, Deepika Ramola, Priyanka, and others argued that UKSSSC had initially published an answer key following the completion of the written examination. Subsequently, the commission revised the answer key and sought objections from candidates, resulting in several initially correct answers being marked as incorrect, thereby affecting their chances of selection. The petitioners further contended that the commission cannot arbitrarily revise the answer key without valid justification and should have ensured accuracy before finalising the questions.
