Healthcare drive: CM moots Health Commissionerate

DEHRADUN, 2 Aug: In the wake of recent incidents drawing serious attention to the state of healthcare, the State government is prepared to introduce far-reaching overhaul of the healthcare system in the state. In this regard, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the government’s aim is to create a strong healthcare network at the district and tehsil levels.
Emphasising the need for robust administration and leadership in public health. The government is actively considering the creation of a Health Commissionerate with a dedicated post of Health Commissioner, as well as appointing Deputy Directors Administration in medical colleges, on the lines of the AIIMS model.
Acting on instructions from Chief Minister, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister RK Sudhanshu held a meeting on Saturday with the Secretary and senior health officials in this regard. The Principal Secretary underlined the need for accountability and directed the submission of a comprehensive report to identify those responsible for negligence or mismanagement. Instructions were issued to establish help desks in all district hospitals, major or otherwise, staffed with Public Relations Officers to provide assistance to patients and their attendants. District administrations have also been directed to deploy administrative officers in district and sub-district hospitals on a rotating basis for effective management.
It was shared in the meeting that the arrangements at Ayushman Help Desks (Ayushman Mitra) in various hospitals would also be strengthened to ensure that the support systems are robust and effective. The Principal Secretary reiterated that the creation of a Health Commissioner’s post in the state should be closely considered and directed the health department to submit a detailed proposal on this matter. Similarly, he called for assessing the need for Deputy Director Administration in medical colleges, suggesting that the administrative structure at AIIMS be thoroughly examined for reference. To modernise and streamline healthcare access, a robust online slot booking system for OPDs and other hospital services will also be developed, aimed at controlling crowds and making it easier for patients to avail themselves of services.
Among those present at the meeting included Health Secretary R Rajesh Kumar, Director General, Medical Health and Family Welfare Sunita Tamta, Director, Medical Health and Family Welfare Shikha Jangpangi, and Director, Medical Education Ashutosh Sayana.
