Dehradun, 23 Jul: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Uttarakhand throughout the week from 13 to 19 July. In addition, the IMD has also advised the residents, pilgrims and tourists to remain particularly cautious over the next three days. The Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, has issued its weekly weather forecast indicating that rainfall is likely every day during the period, while the IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in the state between 13 and 19 July.
According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, lightning at isolated places may pose a threat to life and property during the period. It has also cautioned that vulnerable areas may experience light to moderate landslides, while low-lying areas could witness waterlogging due to persistent rainfall. On Tuesday, 14 July, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected at a few places in the hill districts, while isolated very light to light rainfall is likely over the plains. The IMD has again warned of the possibility of lightning at isolated locations, which could result in damage to life and property.
For Wednesday, 15 July, the weather department has issued a special alert for Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Champawat, Almora and Nainital districts, where light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places. Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal and Udham Singh Nagar districts are also likely to receive light to moderate rain at a few places, while similar weather conditions are expected at isolated places in Haridwar district.
The forecast indicates that there is unlikely to be any significant relief from the wet spell during the remainder of the week. From Thursday, 16 July, to Sunday, 19 July, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and rain showers is expected at many places across all districts of Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has also issued its all-India weather outlook, forecasting heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand throughout the period from 13 to 19 July. It has further predicted heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and the Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh region, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, during July 18 and 19.
The IMD has also warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places across Uttarakhand between 13 and 19 July. In view of the forecast, the people living in landslide-prone areas and low-lying regions have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the week-long spell of rain.
