Dehradun, 1 Jul: Continuous heavy rainfall since morning in Dehradun and surrounding areas severely disrupted air traffic at Jollygrant Airport today. By noon today, the intensity of the rain increased and forced several flights to be diverted. The Indigo flight arriving from Mumbai at 11 am was diverted to Delhi after circling in the skies over Dehradun.
At 11:25 a.m., Indigo’s Jaipur flight was diverted to Chandigarh, while the Kolkata flight scheduled to land at 12 noon was redirected to Jaipur. An Air India flight from Delhi, due to arrive at 1 p.m., was also sent back to Delhi. In total, four flights had to be diverted due to adverse weather conditions.
Passengers reported that the aircraft hovered over Dehradun for several minutes before being diverted to alternate airports. However, flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad that were scheduled earlier in the day managed to land on time before the weather worsened.
It may be recalled that Dehradun frequently witnesses flight disruptions during the monsoon as it tends to rain heavily in that area of the district during the monsoon.
