Devprayag, 14 Jul: Persistent rainfall across Uttarakhand is increasingly disrupting daily life, with recurrent landslides blocking vital roadways in the hilly terrain and posing grave risks to residents. One such incident occurred early this morning in Devprayag, Tehri district, where a severe landslide was recorded in the Pauri Bah Bazaar area, adjacent to Sangam Nagri. In a harrowing sequence captured on video by nearby residents, a cascade of debris descended from a collapsing hillside, resulting in injuries to two individuals and causing substantial property damage.
According to initial reports, the landslide struck around the Sangam area, bringing down heavy rocks which severely damaged a house, a cowshed, and two vehicles. The visuals in the viral video show the collapse beginning with scattered small stones, followed swiftly by larger boulders tumbling onto the road. The incident shocked residents, many of whom watched helplessly from their homes across the street as the hillside gave way. Teams from the Public Works Department and disaster management arrived swiftly and initiated rescue and relief operations. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The landslide has also led to a blockage on the Pauri-Devprayag State Highway, where JCB machines have been deployed to clear the accumulated rubble and restore vehicular movement. Given the volatile weather and escalating landslide threats, the local administration has issued advisories urging tourists and residents to exercise utmost caution while travelling through mountainous regions during the monsoon period.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Pauri Garhwal, Deepak Ramchandra Seth, confirmed that a revenue team has been dispatched to the site immediately upon receiving information about the incident. An assessment is currently underway to ascertain the extent of damages and casualties, while relief efforts continue in full swing.
