Dehradun, 25 Jun: Security has been placed on high alert along the Uttarakhand–Himachal Pradesh border following tensions linked to Nihang Sikhs, with police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel deployed in the border area. Authorities have stepped up deployments in view of a declared march by members of the Nihang community, and heavy police presence has been reported across the state’s frontiers.
In Kulhal on the Vikasnagar border in Dehradun district adjacent to Himachal Pradesh, the security arrangements have been tightened. Acting on intelligence inputs about possible movement by Nihang Sikhs, police and paramilitary deployments were increased, and teams remained active from late night into the early morning across urban and rural areas. Under the supervision of local commanders, operations are ongoing at inter-state and intra-district boundaries as well as on major internal routes, where vehicles are being subjected to intensive checks.
The security personnel are conducting identity verification and questioning of people found to be moving under suspicious circumstances. Field-level commanders have been instructed to personally inspect security arrangements. The most stringent measures were visible at the Kulhal border in Vikasnagar under Dehradun’s jurisdiction, where a large contingent of Uttarakhand Police and ITBP personnel has been posted. Dehradun SSP Pramendra Dobal said no group will be permitted to enter Uttarakhand without necessary checks and authorisation, and security agencies are keeping a close watch on all activities in the border area.
Senior officers including SP Rural Pankaj Gairola and Vikasnagar SHO Rajiv Rauthan were present to oversee security measures. Police have intensified surveillance on key routes connecting to Himachal Pradesh, and additional deployments were made at Dakpathar Bridge and Dakpathar barrage, which are considered important transit points between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
The Police emphasised that the measures are not aimed at targeting any specific community or group but are intended to ensure peace, law and order, and public safety. Given the sensitive situation, border-area monitoring has been heightened to deal promptly with any untoward incident. Dehradun Police appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours and to report any suspicious activity immediately. At present, security agencies remain vigilant from the Himachal border through Vikasnagar and the Dakpathar area, conducting detailed checks of all vehicles and individuals entering and leaving the region.
