Home Secretary directs preparation of long, short term action plans for traffic management

Dehradun, 9 Sep: Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli today held a meeting regarding the traffic management in the state. In the meeting, he stressed upon paying special attention to the enforcement of traffic rules. He said that Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) should be started soon. Home Secretary directed the officials to prepare short-term and long-term plans soon to resolve the traffic problem. Senior Officials from the Police and the Transport Departments participated in the meeting. Special discussion was held regarding traffic management in Dehradun and other bigger cities of the state.

Bagoli directed the officials from all related departments to prepare and implement an action plan in mutual coordination. He also emphasised that the Traffic Directorate will work to improve the traffic system in all districts including Dehradun.

Emphasis was laid on the use of modern technologies to remove traffic congestion. The Home Secretary said that the work done by other institutions and agencies working towards improving the traffic system should also be studied and included in the plans. Along with identifying new parking lots at places with high traffic congestion, instructions were also given to focus on the construction and paving of new roads. Enforcement should be increased to force commercial establishments, malls, restaurants etc use their own parking lots.

The Home Secretary also instructed to work towards setting up mobile vending zones for hawkers in the city. Instructions were also given to streamline the red light violation detection system. He also said that there is a need to increase the number of automated red light signals at intersections. He instructed to resolve traffic problems by Command and Control Centre of the Smart City.
