Dehradun, 22 Apr: Today, on the occasion of the 49th United Nations (UN) Earth Day, HaritaDhara Research Development and Education Foundation (HRDEF) organised several workshops and activities. HRDEF has been celebrating April month as Harita month for a couple of years. This year HRDEF organised National Level Painting, Essay, Quiz competitions and delivered lectures to promote the UN Earth Day theme on Education and Climate Change, Protecting Species. The main purpose of these events is to create awareness and capacity building among students for Sustainable Development, SDGs, Climate Change, and Environmental issues.
Today, students of CNI Boys and CNI Girls Inter College actively participated in the quiz competition and learned about various steps that they can take for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change through being knowledgeable about current scenarios. Dr Manisha spoke about Earth Day’s importance, effects of global warming, pollution on Biodiversity, why tree plantation is needed, and reduction in plastic use. HRDEF also celebrated the Dr Amedekar Anniversary and Baisakhi through promotion of plantation of trees.
Anant Bhaskar Garg, Director, HRDEF, #MentorofChange, ATL, NITI Aayog, talked about SDGs, climate change, and ICT. For this they are conducting tinkering programmes to motivate students to learn science and mathematical concepts through hands-on, play, films, and project based activities to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art+Design, Mathematics). These events are successful because of efforts and support from Arvind Martin, Vice-Principal, CNI Boys, and Vinita Martin, Principal, CNI Girls, Suman, Vijay Kumar, Krishna Kumar, Sushma, Sandhya, Prayanshi, and special steady efforts from students.
