Dehradun, 6 May: Veteran Congress leader and party candidate from Dhanolti, Jot Singh Bisht, who was also a party general secretary in the outgoing PCC, gave a major jolt to the party by not only quitting but also joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He joined AAP in New Delhi, today, in the presence of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. He was welcomed in the party by Sisodia, who claimed that AAP would be strengthened with Bisht’s joining and his vast experience in politics would help the party significantly in Uttarakhand.
Bisht had shared on social media about his decision to quit Congress after being an active Congress leader for past 40 years. He blamed the differences between various top leaders and the tendency to encourage sabotage against the party candidates by other party activists for his decision to quit. He also said that he was leaving the party after being associated with it for four decades with a heavy heart. He alleged that the party had lost direction at the national as well as state levels, and its ideology is nowhere visible now. He said that Congress leaders are now fighting for personal gains and not for the party. The way Congress is being run presently didn’t give him any hope that there would be significant improvement in its functioning.
Bisht has also written an open letter to senior Congress leaders stating why he decided to leave the party and thanked them for their association with him.
