DEHRADUN, 17 Jul: BJP has finally expelled its controversial MLA from Khanpur (District Haridwar), KunwarPranav Singh Champion from the party for six years. The orders to this respect were issued today by the national general secretary of the party and in charge of the Party Headquarters, Arun Singh. According to the orders issued today, Singh has been expelled from the party on grounds of indiscipline. However, Singh will continue to be MLA till 2012 when he may contest again as in independent candidate. It may be recalled that the action has been taken by the party after a video had gone viral where the controversial MLA was seen dancing to some song with several guns in his hands. In the video, he was seen drinking too and abusing Uttarakhand. It was the abuse of the state that led a huge uproar in the state and the party and demand was raised within the party and across the state to expel the party MLA. Demand was also made to register FIR against him for this. Incidentally, when this video viral, Kunwar Pranav Singh was already under suspension of 3 months from the party because of another video that too had become viral and where he was also seen brandishing a gun and threatening a local journalist in Uttarakhand Niwas in New Delhi. As soon as the second video went viral, some leaders including party’s Rajya Sabha MP Ani Baluni had asserted that Singh would be thrown out. Not only this, the incharge o the party affairs in Uttarakhand, ShyamJaju too had stated that Singh would be expelled from the party. However, according to the party constitution, state leadership is not authorised to expel any party MLA or MP. It is the Central leadership, which has to take action in this regard. As the demand for strict action grew in the state, Singh was issued a ten day notice and the party had extended his expulsion to an indefinite period. But the demand continued to swell and the party was under pressure to take a strict action against the MLA. Hence a recommendation was made by the state unit of the party submitted to the party high command. Today finally, the orders to this effect were issued. It is not the first time that Kunwar Pranav is in news for wrong reasons. He has been involved in several controversies in the past. It may be recalled that Kunwar Pranav Singh had won the assembly election for the first time in 2002 as an independent and had later joined the Congress party. He won two assembly elections namely in 2007 and 2012 as Congress candidate before joining the BJP along with several other Congress MLAS in a revolt against the then CM, Harish Rawat.
