Pithoragarh, 25 Aug: In Pithoragarh district’s Dharchula region, the Adi Kailash pilgrimage route was blocked this morning following a sudden landslide near Byaldhar, about two kilometres ahead of Pangla. Heavy boulders and debris from the hillside fell onto the road, completely halting the traffic and leaving dozens of vehicles stranded on both the sides of the road. However, anticipating the risk, the Border Roads Organisation’s 65 RCC GREF team had already stopped vehicular movement, which prevented any casualty.

BRO officials shared that two JCB machines have been deployed to clear the debris and the road is expected to reopen by evening. Head Constable Sobhan Bangyal of Pangla police station appealed to vehicle owners and travellers to remain at safe locations until the route is restored. The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of mountain roads during the monsoon season and the need for constant vigilance and timely intervention to ensure the safety of pilgrims and local commuters.
