DEHRADUN, 15 Oct: A letter threatening to blow up Haridwar, Rishkesh and Char Dham shrines has been received by Station Superintendent of Haridwar Railway Station. The letter has allegedly been sent by Jaish E Mohammad, a well known terror outfit, that operates from Pakistan soil and is involved in several terror incidents in India.

According to the threat letter received by Haridwar Station Superintendent, warning to carry blasts in Haridwar, Rishikesh and Char Dham shrines on 25 and 27 October has been made. Interestingly, though this letter had been received on 10 October by the Railway Station officers, but was never made public for unknown reasons so far. It is only now that the letter has been made public. Railway GRP Police has registered a case against unknown persons in this regard and have begun investigation into the case.

It may be recalled that such threats have been received at Haridwar Railway Station and other railway stations in Uttarakhand in the past too, during past decade, especially before the important Hindu festivals like Diwali and Holi. This time too, the threat letter has been received on the occasion of Diwali. Following this letter, security has been beefed up at Haridwar and Rishikesh Railway Stations, at important ghats and the market in Haridwar and Rishikesh as well as in Char Dham shrines.
