Dehradun, 9 Dec: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Karan Mahara has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding strict measures by the Indian Government to prevent atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. In addition, the Congress has also announced that it would burn an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest the failure of his government to protect Hindus in Bangladesh.

In his letter, Mahara stated that, after the change of power in Bangladesh, atrocities on the Hindus there have been continuously increasing. He mentioned that, after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Mohammad Yunus, who came to power, had assured that no harm would come to minority Hindus and their religious places. However, several months later, attacks on Hindus and their religious places in Bangladesh continue unabated. Hindus are being openly robbed and their religious places are being set on fire, with the Yunus government proving unsuccessful in protecting them.

Mahara asserted that, while former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi laid the foundation of a separate Bangladesh by responding to Pakistan in the Indo-Pak war of 1971, the current BJP government, which claims global recognition, has done nothing to protect Hindus in Bangladesh. He questioned why the RSS and BJP, who call themselves the flag-bearers of Hindus, are silent on the issue. He pointed out that Hindus are not safe anywhere, be it Maldives, Canada, or Bangladesh. Mahara criticised the BJP for claiming to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine on social media but failing to take any steps for Hindus in Bangladesh.

He expressed concern over the fact that even as the atrocities on Hindus continue in Bangladesh, the interim government’s affinity for Pakistan is increasing. The recent decision by the Bangladesh government regarding visas to Pakistanis could create security problems for India. Mahara urged the Indian government to talk to the President and the head of the interim government in Bangladesh to find a solution and take strong steps, such as breaking off diplomatic relations.

Mahara claimed that the Congress Party fully supports the government on the Bangladesh issue and demands strong diplomatic measures to ensure the safety of Hindus living in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile in another development, PCC Chief Mahara has also announced that the Congress leaders in the state would tomorrow burn the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest against his failure to protect Hindus.
