Dehradun, 7 Feb: Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj today emphasised that in order to achieve sustainable development goals in Gram Panchayats, efforts should be made to improve coordination among the departments and to put ambitious plans on the ground quickly. He also directed effective measures be taken to expedite development of Panchayat Bhavans to function as Deendayal Mini Secretariats.

Maharaj was chairing a review meeting of the State Panchayati Raj Department here today.  In the meeting, he said that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is constantly monitoring the work being done in Panchayats to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering Panchayats is realised at the earliest in the state. Maharaj said that all the formalities and arrangements should be completed on time to achieve the sustainable development goals and to develop Deendayal Mini Secretariat along with the construction of Panchayat Bhawans.

Maharaj said that there is a need to make Gram Sabhas strong and transparent to fulfil the goals of sustainable development. He said that this would be possible only through the convergence of various schemes of all the departments. That’s why coordination with the departments is necessary for the development works to be done in the Gram Sabha. Efforts should be made to make all arrangements transparent and time-bound so that the three-tier panchayats could become self-supporting and autonomous.

Senior officers including Panchayati Raj Secretary Nitesh Jha, Additional Secretary Omkar Singh, Panchayati Raj Director Bansidhar Tiwari, and Deputy Director Manoj Tiwari were present at the review meeting.
