Maj General MPS Gill assumes command as GOC, Uttarakhand Sub Area

Dehradun, 26 May: Major General MPS Gill, Vishisht Seva Medal, assumed command as the General Officer Commanding, Uttarakhand Sub Area today. He succeeds Major General R Prem Raj, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal.

To mark the occasion, Major General Gill laid a wreath at Shaurya Sthal, paying homage to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

An alumnus of the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Major General Gill was commissioned into the 18 Mechanised Infantry on 16 December 1989. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has commanded, both, a Mechanised Infantry Battalion and an Armoured Brigade on the Western Front.

A committed scholar and avid reader, he has completed several premier military courses, including the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington; the Higher Command Course at the Army War College, Mhow, and the National Defence College (Foreign), Bangladesh.

He has held several key staff and instructional appointments, including Director in the Military Operations Directorate, New Delhi; Brigadier General Staff at HQ ARTRAC; Chief of Staff of a Strike Corps; and Additional Director General (Vigilance) in the Chief of Army Staff’s Secretariat. He also played a pivotal role in establishing the Perception Management Directorate at Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff.

In recognition of his exemplary service, Major General Gill has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal, the Vice Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card, and the GOC-in-C Commendation (ARTRAC) Card.

As he assumes command of the Sub Area in Uttarakhand, Major General Gill will focus on the integration of advanced technologies across military domains and the national vision of Aatmanirbharta. He also places strong emphasis on the welfare of veterans and Veer Naris, while fostering close cooperation with the state administration.
