Dehradun, 19 Feb: To ensure safe conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand, Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar held a meeting with senior police officials through video conference at the police headquarters, here, today. Kumar instructed the police officers of the ranges and districts to ensure flawless security arrangements by taking special precautions during the proposed tour programmes of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the state. This is in view of the fact that a higher security threat has been perceived by the police for him following passage of the UCC bill in the state.
Kumar also directed that adequate number of police personnel in plain clothes be deputed during the tours of the CM in various districts. ADG, Crime, and Law & Order, AP Anshuman, Inspector General of Police, Police Telecommunication, Krishna Kumar VK, Inspector General of Police, P/M, Nilesh Anand Bharne, Deputy Inspector General of Police P Renuka Devi and DIG Sukhbir Singh were among those who were present at the meeting.
It was directed that the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India should be carefully observed and compliance with the instructions ensured in letter and spirit. The management plan of the districts should be prepared immediately as per the standards set by the Election Commission of India.
It was also directed that the instructions issued by the Election Commission regarding licensed weapons and the provisions made in the Arms Act should be carefully implemented. Critical Polling Stations should be identified by doing Vulnerability Mapping as per the instructions issued by the Election Commission.
It was also directed that the training of the police force engaged in election duty should be completed on time as per the manual. It should be ensured whether the officers/employees have been transferred as per the guidelines issued by the Election Commission. Those personnel who have been transferred from their work in the concerned district/unit should be relieved without any further delay.
The DGP also emphasised that error free security arrangements ought to be ensured as per the security category given to VVIPs/VIPs coming to the state during elections. Flawless security arrangements should be ensured in accordance with the security standards in the proposed rallies. He also directed that, in view of the recent passage of the UCC bill in the state, during the proposed tour programmes of the CM in the districts of Uttarakhand, special caution should be taken to ensure flawless security arrangements and personnel should also be appointed in plain clothes.
It was further directed that those who hold protests/demonstrations need to be made aware of the need to protest peacefully. Legal action would be taken immediately as per rules against those blocking roads.
It was also emphasised that the past instructions issued by the Police Headquarters regarding keeping the seniority of the Inspector/Sub-Inspector in mind while appointing the station in-charge be strictly followed.
