MLA Umesh Kumar’s arms licence suspended

DEHRADUN, 28 Jan: In a major development amidst the escalating feud between Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar and Pranav Champion, the arms licence of Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar has been suspended. Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal on Tuesday issued the order citing public interest and recent controversial incidents as the basis to cancel the arms licence granted to Umesh Kumar, this decision comes a day after the arms licence of former MLA of Khanpur, Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion were also cancelled. Champion had 9-arms licences issued to him, his wife Devyani Singh and son.
According to District Magistrate Dehradun, Savin Bansal, the arms licence of Umesh Kumar, son of the late Jagdish Prasad and a resident of Nehru Gram village in Dehradun, has been suspended with immediate effect. Authorities have also initiated the process of permanently cancelling the licence.
The action follows a case registered against MLA Umesh Kumar at the Civil Lines police station in Kotwali Roorkee, Haridwar. The charges include allegations of firing a weapon while waving it in a threatening manner and issuing death threats.
