Dehradun, 14 Dec: Today was a day of major success for Dehradun Police as it managed to arrest most wanted criminal Sushil Gujjar along with four of his accomplices reportedly from at the Asharodi Police Post. Gujjar is wanted for a number of crimes committed in Uttarakhand, UP and Haryana.
Gujjar was also allegedly involved in a recent case of daylight robbery in the house of businessman Gurminder Singh Sarna in Race Course, here. This robbery was committed on 28 November, when Sarna was on a routine morning walk. He was forced back into his house, held hostage at gun point and the robbery was committed. Jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees, cash worth Rs 4 lakhs, a licensed gun and many other valuables, including several imported watches, many cameras and a car were taken away by the robbers.
Briefing the media here, today, SSP, Dehradun, Dalip Singh Kunwar reported that, following the robbery of 28 November, the Dehradun Police had been searching for the robbers and had raided several known hideouts of the gang leader, Sushil Gujjar, in Delhi, Western UP and Haryana. The raids and search operation were led by Inspector Mukesh Tyagi, SI Naresh Rathaur, SI Lokendra Bahuguna and Sandeep Kumar. The team pursued its search and investigation into the case while camping in Western UP. The team earned its first success when it was able to nab one of the accomplices of Gujjar, Atul Kumar Rana, yesterday morning, against whom at least six cases of serious crimes are registered in Uttarakhand. Atul Kumar Rana was brought to Dehradun and the search for other criminals continued.
Following some tipoffs, Suhsil Gujjar (aged 38 years), a resident of village Dadri near Daurala in district Meerut, was nabbed at Asharodi Police post along with his accomplices Amrit alias Guddu (34 years), resident of Morna in Hastinapur in district Meerut, and Deepak Kumar Mahipal (aged 20 years) and resident of Dadri in Daurala in district Meerut.
Kunwar added that the Police have been able to recover at least 6 expensive watches worth Rs 12 lakhs, one revolver and one 9 mm pistol which had been used in the robbery and two locally made guns. The SSP further stated that the DGP, Uttarakhand, had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the team that arrested Gujjar and his accomplices, while the DIG Garhwal also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the team. On the other hand, a cash reward of Rs 25,000 was announced by SSP Dehradun.
The team includes Inspector Mukesh Tyagi, SIs KR Pandey, Lokendra Bahuguna, Naresh Rathaur and Sandeep Kumar, besides Balbir Dobhal, Arun Aswal, Sanky Kumar and Deepak Dhariwal and Constables Lalit, Pankaj and Amit, etc.
Meanwhile, UP Police have also sought custody of Sushil Gujjar and his associates. According to the Police, at least 6 serious cases are registered against Gujjar in Delhi, alone, while many more cases are registered in Western UP and Haryana. In Dehradun, too, two cases of serious crimes are registered against Gujjar. Three cases of serious crime are also registered against Guddu in Dehradun, and there are cases registered also against Deepak Mahipal. The Police are also after one more person, Vishal, allegedly involved in the robbery in Race Course, who is a resident of Rohta village in district Meerut. Vishal is presently absconding.
According to Kunwar, Sushil Gujjar is a hardcore criminal who prefers to surrender in courts when the Police goes after him and then manages bail after a few days, after which he is known to abscond.
