Energy conservation should be part of daily routine: CM Dhami

Dehradun, 14 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in a programme organised at the ONGC auditorium, Kaulagarh Road, on the occasion of Energy Conservation Day, here, today. In this programme, jointly organised by Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency and ONGC, the Chief Minister also visited the exhibition on energy efficient equipment and released a table calendar of 2023 based on energy conservation. The winners of various competitions based on energy conservation were also awarded by the Chief Minister.

Addressing the gathering, Dhami said everyone would have to make efforts on energy conservation. Energy conservation ought to become a part of everyone’s daily routine. Knowledge and science had progressed rapidly. Many new techniques are also being used for energy conservation. Along with these techniques, he advised that electricity ought to be used solely as per the requirement. He added that the state government is constantly making efforts to maintain a balance between ecology and economy.

The Chief Minister said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is leading on the international stage in the field of solar energy. India is taking forward the resolve of development of clean energy to the whole world. The country is now also making abundant use of natural energy in the field of industrial development. Uttarakhand has immense possibilities in the field of tourism and energy. In the concept of the state, tourism and energy economy were the mainstays, and the state government is paying special attention to this.”

The CM reiterated his request, made recently to Prime Minister Modi, to get NOCs for various hydropower projects in the state soon. Sustainable development of any country is possible only with sustainable energy, he emphasised.

Secretary Energy RK Meenakshi Sundaram said that there is a lot of potential in the field of energy production in Uttarakhand. For this, work is also being done on a joint venture with THDC. Small hydro power projects are being promoted in the state. He said that, along with energy production, one would have to pay special attention to conservation of energy. He said that school children play an important role in creating awareness in any field. Along with bringing information into practicality, children could also make other people aware.

Director, UREDA, Ranjana Rajguru said that an awareness campaign on energy conservation is being conducted in all the districts. It is being conducted through publicity vehicles, street plays and rallies. Five villages have been selected in every district, which would be made energy villages. Various activities are being organised by UREDA in collaboration with ONGC.

Additional Secretary, Energy, Dr Ahmad Iqbal, Executive Director, ONGC, I Ram, Deputy General Manager, ONGC, RS Narayani, MD, UJVNL Sandeep Singhal and others were present on the occasion.
