Dehradun, 1 Jul: The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam Dehradun) has initiated action against security gates erected by residents on public roads, treating them as encroachments on government land. The first official notice in this regard has been pasted on a security gate in Ward No. 39, Indira Nagar Colony.

According to the notice issued by the Municipal Corporation, the gate has been installed on a public street, causing obstruction to the free movement of the general public. The civic body has directed the residents to remove the gate within seven days of receiving the notice, failing which the Municipal Corporation will remove the structure at the cost and risk of the residents concerned.

The notice states that, while maintaining security is important, no individual or residents’ group is permitted to block or restrict access to public roads without the necessary approval from the competent authority. The Municipal Corporation has termed such installations as encroachments under its enforcement drive.

The action in Ward No. 39 is being seen as the beginning of a wider campaign against unauthorised gates installed on public streets across Dehradun. Residents of colonies where similar gates have been erected are likely to receive notices in the coming days if the structures are found to be in violation of municipal regulations.

The move has sparked discussions among residents, with some emphasising the need for security while others support the Municipal Corporation’s stand on keeping public roads open and free from encroachment.
