Dehradun, 12 Oct: The National Hydrographic Office (NHO), a premier establishment of the Indian Navy was established in 1954 at Dehradun. It is presently headed by Vice Admiral Adhir Arora, Chief Hydrographer to the Government of India. This organisation is the hub and National Agency for production of Electronic Navigation Charts and Paper Charts for all seagoing vessels.
The Indian Navy celebrates Navy Day on 4 December every year to commemorate the remarkable victory of India over Pakistan during the 1971 war. As part of Navy Day – 2023 celebrations, National Hydrographic Office will organise a Half Marathon in Dehradun on 22 October. The event has been named ‘Dehradun Navy Half Marathon-2023’ (DNHM-23) and is part of multiple activities being undertaken by Indian Navy under the aegis of Ministry of Defence to celebrate the said occasion.
The event is being organised for the first time in Dehradun by the Indian Navy and will be conducted under three distance categories, viz. 21.1 kms, 10 kms and 5 kms (non-timed). The Maharana Pratap Sports College stadium, Raipur, has been selected as the primary venue for the event. The race will start and finish at the Stadium. The running route for various distance categories would be inside Dehradun area, is scenic, mostly flat and green as preferred by the runners. The Half Marathon would allow participants to experience and appreciate the scenic views and serene surroundings during the race.
DNHM-23 will be open to Armed and Para-military forces personnel, their families and civilians from all walks of life. A large number of veterans and their family members, children studying in Military Schools, Sainik Schools and similar Schools/ Institutes/ Academies of Dehradun area are expected to participate in the event.
The first Bib expo for the event will be held at National Hydrographic Office, Rajpur Road, on 20 October, where the runners would be handed over their running kits (including T-shirts, timing chips and running bibs) for the race. The second Bib expo will be held at the Maharana Pratap Sports College stadium on 21 October to facilitate the outstation runners participating in the event. All runners will be given a medal for participation and refreshments on completion of the race.
