DEHRADUN, 10 May: A young man lost around Rs 10 lakh in an online trading scam. The fraudsters lured him by promising high returns. They added him to a WhatsApp group where messages were shared about stock market investors who had earned big profits.
According to the information, Vikas Kumar, filed a complaint at Prem Nagar police station. He said that on February 20,he was added to a WhatsApp group from an unknown number. The group shared messages about stock market trading. At first, Vikas just read the messages. Later, he showed interest in investing.
After that, a woman named Priya Sharma contacted him. She gave him details about how to invest and asked him to download an app through a link she sent. Then, an account was created for him in a company’s name. Priya told him he would earn a good profit.
Trusting her words, Vikas deposited Rs 10.50 lakh in the bank accounts given by the company. After a few days, his app showed that he had made a big profit. This made him suspicious. When he asked to withdraw the money, he was told that he must first deposit Rs 21 lakh. He later realized it was cheating, so Vikas approached the police. A case has been registered against unknown persons, and the police have started an investigation.
