Dehradun, 7 Apr: Following the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and through special efforts of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BVRC Purushottam, national political parties in Uttarakhand have so far appointed 20,863 Booth Level Agents (BLAs). In this regard, Dr Purushottam expressed gratitude to the political parties for their cooperation and urged them to ensure one hundred per cent appointment of BLAs at the earliest.

At present, the BJP has appointed 89 per cent of its BLAs, while the Indian National Congress (INC) has appointed 84 per cent. Out of the thirteen districts in the state, five have achieved complete appointment of BLAs by both parties.

The CEO shared that, so far, the BJP has appointed 10,551 BLAs, Congress 9,869, CPI (M) 326 and BSP 117. He emphasised that the BLAs will play a crucial role in the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign, particularly in the purification of electoral rolls. He recalled that in line with the Commission’s instructions, meetings were held with recognised national political parties in the state to request full appointment of BLAs, after which majority of appointments have now been completed by the national parties.

Purushottam reiterated that the presence of BLAs at every booth is vital for ensuring transparency and accuracy in the electoral process. He appealed to all political parties to complete the remaining appointments without delay so that the forthcoming revision exercise can be carried out smoothly and effectively across Uttarakhand.
