Pantnagar, 5 May: Vice-Chancellor of the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Dr Manmohan Singh Chauhan was conferred the honorary title of Colonel Commandant. In the Pipping Ceremony organised by 1UK R & V Sqn NCC established in the university, the Group Leader, Brigadier Prabhat Bhandari, formally attached the Colonel’s insignia on the VC’s shoulders. The ceremony was held in the presence of the First Lady of the University, Veena Chauhan, Mrs Bhandari, Group Captain Rawat and Commanding Officer Colonel Bhatnagar.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Chauhan said in his address that this honour is not only a matter of personal pride for him but also for the university. Under NCC, students of various colleges of the university carry out various programmes in a very disciplined manner and are also selected for various defence services. He said that, along with discipline, NCC cadets should keep themselves active for the safety of the nation. “I have had a great affection for NCC since my childhood and today I feel blessed to be honoured amongst the NCC cadets,” he declared. “We must always be ready for the challenges that lie ahead in the country because patriotism is supreme.”
Group Leader Brigadier Prabhat Bhandari said in his address that the Vice-Chancellor of the University is an eminent scientist and an able administrator and it is a matter of honour for the Ministry of Defence to honour him with the honorary title of Colonel Commandant. Under his able leadership, various activities of NCC are being carried out at a very high level in the University and it is hoped that the cadets receiving training in NCC from here will contribute with full honesty and dedication not only in the defence services but in whichever field they are in.
At the beginning of the programme, 1UK Colonel Commanding Officer of R&V Squadron NCC, Shomir Bhatnagar, while welcoming everyone, expressed his happiness on the Vice Chancellor being honoured with the honorary title of Colonel Commandant and said that the Vice Chancellor gives 100% support to all the programmes of NCC.
On this occasion, dignitaries, all the Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students and NCC cadets of the University were also present.
