DEHRADUN, 15 Oct: The Actor’s Room, the Mumbai acting academy founded by brothers Harshal and Soham Pawar, is set to open its first studio outside Mumbai. The Actor’s Room Studio in Dehradun is being built in strategic collaboration with Kemsor Studios Pvt Ltd and will open its doors in early November.
The move comes at a defining moment for the academy. With more than 3 lakh followers, The Actor’s Room has become the most followed acting academy in India on Instagram, a community built entirely on the strength of its training and the work of its students.
What began as weekend batches in Versova has grown into one of Mumbai’s most sought after spaces for serious actor training. Harshal Pawar, a working actor and the academy’s lead mentor, shapes its craft first approach, while co-founder Soham Pawar runs the operations and growth that have taken the academy from a single classroom to a national audience.
Dehradun is the natural next step. Uttarakhand is fast becoming one of India’s favourite shooting destinations, and the brothers believe the talent of the region deserves training of the same standard available in Mumbai, without having to leave home for it.
The studio is designed as a flexible training space that can switch between a black box for scene work and performance, an open white room for workshops, and a movement space. The academy plans to begin with intensive programmes in Dehradun, followed by longer formats.
The founders also met the Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, who appreciated the academy’s efforts to strengthen the state’s film culture.
“Acting is not taught by distance. We wanted actors in Uttarakhand to have the same room, the same rigour and the same mentorship our students get in Mumbai,” said Harshal Pawar. “Mumbai showed us what this community could become. Dehradun is the first step in taking The Actor’s Room to every city that has actors waiting for the right training,” added Soham Pawar.
Kemsor Studios founder, Dev Raturi said that with this step they are all set to groom local talent. Admissions for the first Dehradun programme will open soon.
