Dehradun, 28 Jul: Pradesh Congress Committee Chief and former MLA, Karan Mahara, today expressed regret over his recent statement issued in respect of Garhwali people. It may be recalled that recently in a party meeting addressed by him, Mahara had claimed that people of Garhwal had lost their courage and their blood has become thin like water over their alleged lack of agitation in Ankita Bhandari murder case. This claim had evoked sharp reactions from the leaders of ruling party BJP and many other organisations related to Garhwal region.
In a statement today Mahara conceded his mistake and sought an unconditional apology over his remark. He added that his rather casual remark had weakened the struggle against the government in respect of Ankita Bhandari case and the real issue got diverted as a result of his remark. He said that he was seeking apology from all those who were hurt by his remark.
However Mahara, also did not hesitate to take a jibe against BJP leaders adding that Ankita Bhandari’s case was not a lone such case in Uttarakhand. Several other women had been raped too but the BJP leaders don’t have time to speak on them.
