Mussoorie, 21 Nov: People living near Shifan Court, IDH and the Petrol Pump, here, created ruckus in the Municipal Council, today, over their names not being included in the voter list and shouted slogans against BLO Mamta Rao. On this occasion, they met Executive Officer Tanveer Marwah and accused BLO Rao of working out of political motivation. They said that Mamta Rao is unnecessarily harassing people and asking them for electricity and water bills and is talking about not including their names, which they are strongly opposing. They said that, if their names are not included in the voter list, they would stage a fierce protest against it. They said that, in a democracy, everyone has the right to cast their vote, regarding which the Election Commission is constantly making people aware.
Executive Officer Tanveer Marwah said that the entire matter will be made known to the SDM, Mussoorie, so that the names of the people can be entered in the list as per the rules. Action would be taken as per the rules to investigate the allegations levelled against the BLO.
Sanjay Tamta, Ranjit Singh and Sampati Lal alleged that BLO Mamta Rao is working under political pressure and is asking them for electricity and water bills. They said that they were displaced to different places from Shifan Court, the IDH, and the petrol pump by the Municipality because of which to they neither have electricity nor water connections. They said that they have Aadhar Card and have been living in Mussoorie for many years. Their names are not being uploaded to the voter list. They have demanded immediate action against BLO Mamta Rao.
Social activist Jagjit Kukreja said that, in a democracy everyone has the right to vote. Some BLOs are not adding the names of many people in the voter list due to political reasons. He said that he would soon meet the SDM, Mussoorie, and get the names added as per the rules.
