DEHRADUN, 27 Apr: Dehradun’s cultural calendar was further enriched on Sunday with the staging of Khidki, a play written by Vikas Bahri and directed by well-known theatre personality Akhilesh Narayan, under the banner of Eklavya Theatre Group on Sunday. The play was staged at Prof KP Nautiyal Auditorium (Graphic Era Hill University) as part of the ongoing ‘Utkrisht Theatre Fest 2026’” organised with the support of the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala (Ministry of Culture).
‘Khidki’ is a sensitive exploration of imagination, reality and parallel time. Centred on a struggling writer battling poverty and deadlines, the play unfolds as he gazes through a window opposite his own, where a young woman often appears. His fantasies about her gradually blur into reality, raising questions about truth and illusion. Ultimately, the window itself becomes a character, an instrument that hands the writer the missing thread of his story.
On stage, Jagriti Kothari delivered a compelling performance as Vedika, while Akhilesh Narayan brought the writer’s character to life with intensity. Their chemistry and emotive acting held the audience spellbound. The technical team also played a vital role, with Tushar Bisht handling lighting, Supriya managing the sound, and Mahesh Narayan designing the set.
The audience too responded with resounding applause, affirming the success of the production. More than a play, Khidki offered viewers a fresh perspective on the power of imagination and the delicate interplay between fantasy and reality, reinforcing Dehradun’s reputation as a vibrant hub of theatre and cultural expression.
