Polling on 11 Sept for HNB University Birla Campus Student Union election

Srinagar (Pauri), 28 Aug: Preparations have begun for the 2026 27 student union election at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University’s Birla Campus in Srinagar. Chief election officer Prof MC Sati has issued the notification for the election. According to the schedule, elections will be held for the posts of president, vice president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer and six executive members, along with the university representative (UR).
As per the announced schedule, the nomination papers can be filed on 2 September between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on 3 September between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on 5 September from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by the announcement of candidates’ names at 5 p.m. the same day. Withdrawal of nominations will also be allowed on 5 September between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Polling will be conducted on 11 September from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., after which counting will be held and results are to be declared the same day. The oath taking ceremony of the elected office bearers will be organised on 12 September at 10 a.m. in the ACL Hall.
The notification has laid down several important rules. Nomination papers must be obtained from the election office and submitted to the committee within the stipulated time. The candidates, the proposers and the seconders must be regular or institutional students of Birla Campus. A nomination fee of Rs 100 has been fixed for each candidate. For undergraduate candidates, the age limit as on 1 July 2026 is 17 to 22 years, while for postgraduate candidates it should not exceed 25 years. For professional courses, a relaxation of one year has been provided based on the duration of the course. Students punished by the college or university will not be eligible to contest and must submit an affidavit as per procedure.
Each candidate has been permitted a maximum election expenditure of Rs 5,000. Exceeding this limit may lead to cancellation of election. The candidates must submit certified accounts of their expenditure to the chief election officer within two weeks of the declaration of results. A minimum of 75 per cent attendance in class is mandatory for eligibility.
The election process will follow the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee along with modifications and instructions issued at the university level in the interest of students. On polling day, no campaign material will be allowed inside the campus. Violation of rules may result in cancellation of nomination or election.
In case of a tie, the winner will be decided through a lottery draw. With the announcement of the election schedule, political and student activities in Birla Campus are expected to intensify.
