Dehradun, 18 Jun: The Uttarakhand State Primary Teachers’ Association has resolved to intensify its movement demanding restoration of the old pension scheme for teachers appointed also after 2005, along with exemption from the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for the teachers who had been appointed before. In a meeting chaired by Virendra Singh Kohli at the association headquarters, yesterday, representatives from regional branches adopted a series of resolutions aimed at pressing these demands before the state and central governments. To press for the demands, the association has also written a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The association also decided to forward proposals to the Union as well as the state governments by 22 June, while it was also decided that the association would approach the MLAs, ministers as well as MPs between 20 and 30 June to press for the demands. On 10 July, district units will organise demonstrations and rallies to highlight the demand for reinstating the old pension system and scrapping restrictive provisions of NPS.
On 15 July, memoranda will be submitted to the Union Education Minister and the Prime Minister through rallies and protests at all district headquarters. During the forthcoming winter session of the Assembly, a march and gherao will be staged, with the date to be declared once the session schedule is announced.
In July, teachers across the state will participate in a postcard campaign addressed to the Prime Minister, seeking relief from NPS, restoration of pension rights and exemption from TET. The association further resolved to extend full support to programmes of the All India Primary Teachers Association during the monsoon session of Parliament, pledging to continue the struggle until justice is achieved.
Leaders emphasised that the movement would remain peaceful and dignified, with focus on conveying a constructive message to the government rather than on stage management or publicity. Provincial office-bearers will lead the 22 June rally, and memoranda will be submitted collectively by the committee members.
The teachers’ body has made it clear that the campaign will persist until their demands for pension restoration and TET exemption are met, underscoring their determination to secure justice for the teaching community.
