Dehradun, 15 May: Prof Durgesh Pant, Director General of the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) paid a courtesy call on Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Raj Bhawan, here, today.
During the courtesy meeting, the Governor discussed the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI), technological innovation, and scientific research. He emphasised the need to ensure that these technologies reach the remote and mountainous regions of the state so that youth, students, women, farmers, and entrepreneurs in these areas can also benefit from technological advancements.
The Governor appreciated UCOST’s innovative initiatives and said that efforts to take science and technology to the grassroots level are truly commendable. He noted that by ensuring public participation in science and innovation, a new direction for the development of the state can be charted.
Prof Pant informed the Governor that Science Innovation Centres are being established by UCOST across all districts of the state to promote local-level technological empowerment. He also shared that a unit for making briquettes from pine needles (Pirul) has been set up in the Bhingrada region of Champawat district, through which local women are engaging in entrepreneurship and becoming economically self-reliant.
Additionally, Prof Pant briefed the Governor about the upcoming World Disaster Management Conference, proposed to be held in November.
