Dehradun, 15: An SIT has been formed by IG, Garhwal, Rajeev Swaroop, to investigate a scam amounting to Rs 136 crore in various construction projects handled by the Uttarakhand Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN) between 2012 and 2018.

“The SIT has been formed to investigate the matter and has been instructed to submit a progress report every 15 days to the SSP, Dehradun,” said IG Garhwal Rajeev Swaroop. He added that the investigation will be supervised by SP City, Dehradun. The Uttarakhand government and police follow a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, he stated. Strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in corrupt practices, he said.

The complaint in this case was filed by Sunil Kumar Malik, who was the Deputy Project Manager of UPRNN Unit 1, Dehradun. Based on his complaint, six FIRs were registered at Nehru Colony Police Station, and five people have been named as accused. The fraud was discovered in 2019 during an internal investigation. The scam involves former officials of UPRNN, including the then Project Manager, General Project Manager, and an Assistant Accounts Officer. They are accused of misusing funds in several government projects.

According to the information, between 2012 and 2018, UPRNN was given several important projects by the Uttarakhand government. These included the construction of 15 government ITIs under the Skill Development Department, disaster relief centres, tourism buildings, the OPD block at Doon Medical College, and streetlights under the Industrial Estate Energy Project.
