Dehradun, 6 Feb: The process of attaching the properties of 13 alleged gangsters has begun in Dehradun, under the Gangster Act. All these persons are stated to be part of the land mafia by Dehradun Police. According to Dehradun Police Chief Dalip Singh Kunwar, around 150 more land mafia are on the radar of the Police, which may soon launch the process to attach the properties of many of them in the near future. It is being claimed that the process to attach the properties of 13 land mafia is just the first phase of the campaign against the land mafia in Dehradun.
In the first phase, 13 persons have been chosen as they are suspected to be terrorising people. Their movable and immovable properties worth more than many crores of rupees will be confiscated during the first phase. Investigation is still underway to identify more properties belonging to this mafia. According to the police, a detailed report has been submitted to the District Magistrate regarding the crimes of the identified land mafia and the details of the properties owned by them. Police sources say that attaching the properties of the mafia will be a joint exercise involving Dehradun Police, MDDA and the District Revenue Department.
According to DIG Kunwar, a large number of such mafias have been identified, whose property will also be seized under the Gangster Act 14(1) on a war footing in the coming days. He claims that no offender will be spared.
The properties being seized belong to Asha Nagar, daughter of Hari Krishna Nagar, Harinagar, alias Harikant s/o Shivsharan Nagar; Ateeq Ahmad, son of Mobeen Ahmad from City Kotwali area; Vinod Uniyal s/o JS Uniyal, under Police Station Vasant Vihar; Deepak Mittal, son of Ashwini Kumar from Police Station Dalanwala, Amit Bedi s/o Dayal Kumar Bedi and Pooja Bedi, wife of Amit Bedi; Rajpal Walia from Police Station Sahaspur; Naseem son of Shabbar, Mukarram son of Anwar, Imtiaz son of Mumtaz, Shavez s/o Mumtaz and Mohammad Sajid s/o Mohammad Haroon from Police Station Patel Nagar.
According to DIG Dalit Singh Kunwar, police have been keeping a tight vigil on activities of organised criminals like drug smugglers and land mafia during the past six months and have now initiated action against them under the Gangster Act. In fact, Gangster Act has been imposed on more than 150 persons during this period. He added that, under section 14(1) of the Gangster Act, action will be taken on a war footing to continuously identify the properties acquired by these vicious criminals and vest them with the government. The DIG also claims that no matter how influential a land mafia is, they will not be spared.
