Pt Ronu Majumdar makes Guinness World Record with largest Hindustani Classical Symphony

Gwalior, 13 Jan: Renowned flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar has achieved a historic milestone, entering the Guinness Book of World Records for leading the largest Hindustani Classical Symphony at the iconic Gwalior Fort, here. A total of 546 musicians participated in the performance, setting a new world record for the most musicians performing a single classical composition.

The official Guinness World Records felicitation ceremony took place, recently, honouring Pandit Majumdar for this extraordinary achievement.

“I am deeply honoured to have my composition, ‘Samvet’, recognised by Guinness World Records,” shared Pandit Ronu Majumdar. “Leading a symphony of 546 musicians was a truly humbling experience. ‘Samvet,’ a blend of the Miyan Malhar, Miyan ki Todi, and Darbari ragas, embodies the collective spirit of Indian classical music.”

Pandit Majumdar expressed his gratitude to the Madhya Pradesh Government, the Cultural Department, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and the Central Government for their support. He also thanked Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for attending the concert.

“I am immensely grateful to the dedicated musicians whose talent and passion made this record possible,” he added. “A special thanks to Richard Stenning of Guinness World Records for his presence.”

Pandit Ronu Majumdar’s musical journey began under the tutelage of his father, Dr Bhanu Majumdar, and was further enriched by the guidance of the late Pt Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale and the legendary Pt Vijay Raghav Rao.

A pioneer in the realm of New-Age music, Pandit Majumdar has collaborated with global icons like Pt Ravi Shankar, George Harrison, and Ry Cooder. His discography includes acclaimed albums such as ‘A Traveller’s Tale’, ‘Koi Akela Kahan’, and the soundtrack for the Hollywood film ‘Primary Colours’.

Pandit Ronu Majumdar has been honoured with the Aditya Vikram Birla Award and the Sahara India Life-Time Achievement Award for his significant contributions to Indian classical music.
