Qualifying dates for updating electoral rolls: Sowjanya

DEHRADUN, 3 Aug: Chief Electoral Officer Sowjanya held a meeting with representatives of various political parties at the Chief Electoral Office in the Secretariat here today. In the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer informed that four qualifying dates have been fixed for one year from now for the inclusion of names in the electoral roll, that is, in the year from now on the basis of the electoral rolls on the basis of 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. Name can be included in the electoral rolls as per the qualifying dates. In the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer informed that the Election Commission of India had made changes in the relevant rules of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 under the Election Laws (Amendment) Act-2021 vide notification dated 30 December, 2021. But Aadhaar card details would be collected from all the electors for which new format 6B has been issued. He said that the purpose of collection of Aadhaar number was to establish the identity of the electors and to verify the entries in the electoral roll and to identify the name of the same person for more than one constituency or more than one time registration in the same constituency.
