Dehradun, 10 Oct: In celebration of World Sight Day 2024, India Vision Institute (IVI) today demonstrated its commitment to leaving no one behind by taking vision screening to Kelur, Melur and Kedamalai villages, in the 3,600-ft high Bodhamalai Hills, in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu.
IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said, “Whether it is a child in the farthest corners of rural India or an adult in a remote community, everyone deserves the right to see clearly.”
“Every child matters. We are delighted that we vision screened eleven children and provided corrective glasses to two of them with refractive errors on World Sight Day. Our team also screened 129 adults,” said Daniel.
“World Sight Day is a global reminder of the importance of eye health and the necessity to provide access to eye care for everyone. This year, the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has set the theme for the commemoration as ‘Love Your Child’s Eyes’,” he said.
“For IVI, no individual is too small or insignificant when it comes to eye care. On World Sight Day, our goal also highlights that vision is not just about numbers – it is about the impact on individuals. These children, no matter how small in number, deserve the same attention and care as those elsewhere, because clear vision is key to their future and opportunities,” he added.
The three villages exemplify the power of grassroots healthcare solutions, with IVI’s teams working in the community, and making a success of the campaign.
As part of its pledge leading up to World Sight Day, IVI has vision screened 125,000 school children across India, providing glasses to those in need.
