Dehradun, 11 Aug: The Uttarakhand government has provided immediate financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh, each, to 98 families affected by the disaster in Dharali. The cheques were distributed by Suresh Singh Chauhan, MLA from the Gangotri constituency.

On 5 August, a severe natural disaster struck Uttarkashi and Pauri districts, causing massive destruction. Heavy rains, landslides, and debris flow destroyed houses, damaged essential infrastructure, and left families in a grave crisis. Soon after the disaster, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site to assess the situation and announced immediate relief of Rs 5 lakh to each affected family.

In line with this announcement, cheques were distributed today to 98 affected families in Dharali. This financial aid is intended to provide initial support to the victims for their rehabilitation, enabling them to meet their basic needs during this challenging period.

CM Dhami stated that this relief marks the first stage of the assistance process. A three-member committee has been set up by the state government to assess the damage to buildings, houses, homestays, livestock, and orchards. The committee will submit a detailed report within seven days, which will form the basis of a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package to ensure long-term support for the victims.

He added, “The people living in the disaster-affected areas are members of my own family. In this difficult time, I and the state government stand shoulder to shoulder with them. Reconstruction and rehabilitation work will be carried out on priority so that all those affected can return to normal life as soon as possible.”

The occasion was attended by local public representatives, administrative officials, and residents, who expressed their gratitude to the state government for its swift relief measures.
