CM pays tribute to martyred police personnel on Police Memorial Day

Dehradun, 21 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the martyrs of police and paramilitary forces at the ‘Martyr Memorial’ on the occasion of Police Memorial Day in Police Lines, here today. He offered flowers and also honoured the families of martyred police personnel of Uttarakhand. He also made four announcements on this occasion. He said that in case of untimely death of police personnel during service, an amount of 1 lakh will be given to the bereaved family as immediate financial assistance from a Corpus of Rs 2 crore to be created as Police Martyrs Welfare Fund. He also announced that a free annual health checkup of non-gazetted police officials will be conducted. In the next three years, a provision of Rs 100 crore will be made for housing of police personnel. The CM further stated that all obstacles related to recruitment of dependents of deceased employees in the police department will be removed.
Dhami said that the responsibility of maintaining the internal security and law and order of the country lies with the police forces and paramilitary forces of the states. While fulfilling their responsibility, police personnel are willing to sacrifice their lives. The Chief Minister said that police system is an essential part of the security and prosperity of any state. The police of Uttarakhand also works in accordance with the spirit of service and is dealing with many challenges like drug addiction, cyber crime, crime against women, traffic management, managing Chardham Yatra, disaster management and rescue work and managing crowds during Kanwad Yatra, etc., to maintain peace and law and order. This year too, Uttarakhand Police has made a commendable contribution in providing smooth travel and darshan to more than 4 crore devotees who have come for the Kanwad Yatra and ensuring safe and convenient travel to about 50 lakh devotees who have reached the Chardham Yatra till now in the current season. Tight security arrangements were ensured by Uttarakhand Police in the three meetings of the G-20 Summit held in the state.
The Chief Minister said that a target has been set to make Uttarakhand a drug-free state by 2025. For which a three-tier anti-narcotic force has been formed by the government under Uttarakhand Police. Moving forward in this direction, narcotic substances worth about Rs 40 crores have been recovered by taking action against more than 4 thousand drug dealers from the year 2021 till now. Strict laws have been brought to effectively curb crimes related to land mafia and copying mafia. To provide a safe environment to mothers and sisters in the state, “Women Help Desks” have been opened at every police station in the state. For women’s safety, Gaura Shakti module was created under Uttarakhand Police App, in which more than one lakh registrations have been done. Women counselling cells have been opened in every district for counselling in marital matters.
Dhami said that for realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of smart policing, an amount of Rs 57 crores has been approved by increasing the amount of Rs 36 crore for the construction of buildings to make the workplaces of police personnel and their barracks smart. According to the Crime in India 2021 report released by NCRB, Uttarakhand state ranks first in recovery of stolen or looted properties with 68 percent rate of recovery.
Director General of Police Ashok Kumar said that 21 October is an important day for the state police forces, central armed forces and all central police organisations. On 21 October 1959, 10 brave soldiers of a patrolling unit of the Central Reserve Police Force in Hotspring, a 16 thousand feet high snowy and inaccessible area of Ladakh on the northern border of India lost their lives while fighting against the Chinese invaders under the leadership of Inspector Karan Singh, he fought against the Chinese invaders and fought with utmost bravery. Their supreme sacrifice is remembered as Police Memorial Day every year on 21 October. In the last one year, a total of 188 personnel of state police and central security forces in India have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. 4 soldiers of Uttarakhand Police, Sub Inspector Pradeep Singh Rawat, Constable Laxman Singh, Constable Chaman Singh Tomar and Constable Jawahar Singh have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty this year.
On this occasion, former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, MLAs Vinod Chamoli, Munna Singh Chauhan, Khajan Das, Savita Kapoor, District Panchayat President Madhu Chauhan, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, former Director General of Police Anil Raturi and police and other senior officials of the Police were present.
