DEHRADUN, 15 Nov: The third edition of the iconic Dehradun event, the Valley of Words Literature and Arts Festival, kicked off to a great start, drawing an amalgam of the city’s literati and a host of celebrated writers and authors! Day one of the Litfest also featured a corporate success story when ‘Salt of the Earth’, the saga of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) was discussed. The book is a very readable story of how a relatively modest initiative went on to become a profitable and a valuable organisation in Gujarat. It faced obstacles in its search for stability and operational efficiency but overcame them through a judicious mix of technological innovation and human resource management! No less than the MD of GACL, PK Gera, IAS, was on the dais to share deep insights about GACL and its role in the growth of this sector. The session was moderated by Anubhav Pradhan, author and scholar, who deftly guided the discussion in a manner that engaged the audience! He also drew attention to the fact that besides recording the history of the five decade old corporation, the book also contained lessons for those keen on knowing how a company is established and steered through a maze of challenges to become a success story. The session was chaired by Pradeep Singh, who also appreciated that the book would help in committing to public memory GACL’s journey in a structured manner and make available to public and management practitioners the best practices adopted by it!
