Satpal Maharaj urges PWD officials to work harder

Dehradun, 6 Jul: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satpal Maharaj held a meeting here, today, with the officials to review the work being done by the Public Works Department and Irrigation Department, and discussed new projects. During the meeting, he also spoke about enhancing the technical knowledge and training of engineers and officers.

The meeting was held at the Public Works Department headquarters located in Yamuna Colony today. He urged the engineers to make preparations for repair and construction work keeping in mind the changing nature of the monsoon. He also warned them to ensure that quality of construction and repair of roads is not compromised under any circumstances. He asked them to fix responsibility and accountability for any level of deficiency or discrepancy seen in the works.

Reminding them that the landslides are happening due to heavy rains, he asked them to remain alert and inspect the roads and the bridges from time to time. Special attention needed to be given to timely completion of projects and quality of works.

He also observed that the condition of PWD bungalows at most places was pathetic and they ought to be repaired and maintained at the earliest. He said that in case the department is unable to maintain certain PWD bungalows, they ought to be given on lease to other parties.

Maharaj said that the Department ought to organise workshops and training conferences to disseminate new technical knowhow to the engineers and officers, in which Irrigation, Minor Irrigation and Rural Works Departments should also be included.

Providing information about the compliance with the instructions of the Public Works Minister given earlier, Ayaz Ahmed, HOD, Public Works Department said that biometric attendance has been started at the block level. The process is going on to fill a total of 267 posts in the department. The construction of drains along the roads has also been done. Damaged sign boards on most motorways have been removed and fixed.

Present at the meeting were Secretary, PWD, RK Sudhanshu, Additional Secretary Suman Singh Valdia, Atar Singh, HOD Ayaz Ahmed and many other officers.
