Sikkim University students on ‘National Unity Journey’ meet Gov

Dehradun, 4 Nov: Students from Sikkim University, who are on a “National Unity Journey”, met Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Raj Bhawan, here, on Monday. This journey, organised under the Indian Army’s “Operation Sadbhavna”, includes one teacher and 17 students from Sikkim University. This is their first visit outside Sikkim to explore various significant locations in Uttarakhand, including the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Forest Research Institute (FRI), Mussoorie, and Rishikesh. The aim of this journey is to provide students with direct exposure to Uttarakhand’s culture, development, technology, and economic progress.

The journey is being led by Major Surjan Singh from the 111 Sub Area, 33 Corps Headquarters, Eastern Command. On this occasion, the Governor interacted with the students and encouraged them to move forward in their lives. He highlighted the immense possibilities and opportunities available for them in today’s ‘New India’. Referring to the vision of a developed India by 2047, he emphasised the crucial role of youth in building a prosperous, self-reliant, and superior nation.

The Governor also remarked that, both, Sikkim and Uttarakhand are Himalayan states, playing a vital role in the conservation of the environment and natural resources. Such programmes strengthen social and cultural ties between states. He stated that, through this journey, students would gain firsthand experience and knowledge from various institutions, providing them new direction and inspiration in life. At the end of the programme, the Governor presented mementos to all the students and wished them a bright future.
