Six die, 4 critical in Munsiyari-Milam road mishap

MUNSYARI, 7 Jun: In a tragic accident on the Munsyari-Milam road in Pithoragarh district on Friday, six people succumbed while four passengers were critically injured. The incident occurred near Rilkot and Burfu around 4 pm when a Bolero (UK05 TA 5010) carrying 11 people lost control and plunged approximately 500 meters into a gorge, falling into the Gori river.
Four passengers died on the spot. Later, one more injured person succumbed during treatment. On Saturday morning, another body was recovered, bringing the death toll to six. The critically injured  have been admitted to the district hospital, where they are undergoing treatment under the supervision of doctors.
Immediately after the incident, rescue and relief operations were launched at the site under the leadership of Commandant Rambharat Singh Kushwaha of the 14th Battalion ITBP. The injured and bodies were extricated from the gorge and transported to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Munsyari, and subsequently referred to the district hospital.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the accident and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured. Local MLA Harish Dhami is also overseeing the relief efforts. The administration has assured financial assistance to the families of the deceased. Search for the missing persons and investigation are underway.
SDM Khushboo Pandey stated that the causes of the incident are being investigated. Among the injured were Divyanshu (17) from Munsyari, Pushpa Devi (38), Pushkar Singh (32) from Madkot, Bhagat Singh (43), and Kailash (22).
Chief Development Officer Deepak Saini visited the injured from the Munsyari accident at the Pithoragarh district hospital on Friday evening. Saini inquired about the well-being of all the injured and reviewed the medical facilities they were receiving. The Chief Medical Officer present on the occasion briefed the CDO on the health status of the injured.
