Uttarkashi, 23 Jul: Smt Manjira Devi University, Uttarkashi, has taken a significant initiative to connect tribal students with quality teacher education and make higher education more accessible to economically disadvantaged students. The university has been formally empanelled by the Tripura Government for its B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. programmes under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme (for ST students). The university management has hailed this as a major achievement towards the educational empowerment of tribal students.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr Bhagwan Nautiyal, stated that the university is founded on the belief that “All of India is one family”. In keeping with this spirit, the institution continuously strives to make education accessible, affordable, and beneficial for all. He emphasised that the university’s policies are designed to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder any student’s education, aiming to bring quality teacher education to every section of society.
According to Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister, Bikash Debbarma, Tripura is the first state in the country to include private B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. institutions under this scheme. He described this as a significant reform aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and student access to quality education.
In a review meeting held regarding the successful conduct of the upcoming 2026-27 academic session, officials from the Tribal Welfare Department and representatives of the empanelled institutions discussed the scheme’s implementation in detail. The meeting placed special emphasis on institutional responsibilities, adherence to prescribed guidelines, and the smooth operation of the scholarship scheme in the best interest of the students.
According to the university management, this initiative will play a crucial role in empowering tribal youth through education, while also accelerating skill development and human resource building. Vice-Chancellor Dr Bhagwan Nautiyal stated that the institute views this opportunity as part of its social responsibility and will work with complete dedication and commitment to build a bright future for tribal students. He affirmed the university’s resolve to ensure that education reaches the most marginalised sections of society—characterised by accessibility, affordability, and quality.
