Dehradun, 28 Jul: A workshop on LED bulb making and repair took place at the sub office of the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre in Gita Bhavan, here, today.

It was organised in collaboration with the Deaf Welfare Association and the Doon Differently Abled Trust. This event received technical support from SPECS and the Speaking Cube Online Mental Health Consulting Foundation under The SNEHAM Program. During the training, approximately 33 deaf participants gained hands-on experience and practical skills in LED bulb manufacturing and repair.

Anant Mehra, Coordinator, District Disability Rehabilitation Centre in Dehradun, stated, “This workshop aims to transfer essential skills to enhance the lives of deaf individuals. Our objective is to empower participants with practical knowledge that will improve their quality of life and provide them with valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth.”

Dr Brij Mohan Sharma, Secretary of SPECS, highlighted the workshop’s objectives: “The workshop on LED bulb making and repairing is designed to empower deaf individuals with crucial entrepreneurial skills. By offering hands-on training in, both, LED bulb production and repair, this initiative aims to enhance participants’ technical abilities, foster self-reliance, and develop business acumen. Beyond teaching new bulb production, the programme includes repair training, which supports climate change mitigation and reduces e-waste. Our goal is to provide opportunities for participants to establish their own businesses, thereby promoting economic independence and creating a more inclusive business environment. With comprehensive support and instruction, we aim to unlock the potential of deaf entrepreneurs, enabling them to succeed in a growing industry while tackling environmental and employment challenges.”

Neeraj Uniyal said that Training on Manufacturing LED bulbs represents a powerful fusion of entrepreneurship and climate change mitigation. By empowering deaf individuals to produce energy-efficient lighting solutions, this initiative not only fosters economic independence and skill development within the deaf community but also contributes to a greener planet. The bulbs, designed to be more energy-efficient, reduce overall energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, aligning business success with environmental sustainability. This approach highlights how inclusive entrepreneurship can drive both social and ecological progress, demonstrating that innovative solutions can emerge from diverse and unexpected sources.
