SPIC MACAY hosts Flute Recital by Pt Ajay Shankar Prasanna

Dehradun, 25 Jul: SPIC MACAY organised a captivating flute recital by the renowned Pt Ajay Shankar Prasanna at Kasiga School, here, today. Accompanied by Ujith Uday Kumar on Tabla, the programme was a mesmerising experience for all attendees.
Pt Ajay Shankar Prasanna, a three-time Grammy-nominated artist and a top-grade performer from Aakashvani & Doordarshan, showcased his exceptional skills as the youngest and only flautist to adeptly play both the gayaki (vocal) and tantrakari (instrumental) styles. A revered figure in Indian classical music, Pt Prasanna hails from a lineage of classical musicians and received his training under his father and Guru, Pandit Bholanath Prasanna of the Banaras Gharana. His father is also the Guru of the legendary Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia.

During the recital, Pt Ajay Shankar Prasanna performed a diverse repertoire, including classical ragas and compositions that highlighted the intricate nuances of both gayaki and tantrakari styles. The performance included a captivating piece in raga Megh, showcasing the monsoon season’s spirit.
The audience, comprising students and teachers, was deeply moved by the musical journey. The subtle interplay between the flute and tabla left the audience in awe, and the delicate nuances and technical prowess demonstrated by Pt Prasanna were highly appreciated by one and all.

Pt Ajay Shankar Prasanna shared his thoughts on performing in Dehradun and the role of SPIC MACAY, saying, “Performing in Dehradun is always a delightful experience. The city’s vibrant cultural atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the young audience make it special every time. SPIC MACAY is doing commendable work in promoting arts and culture among the youth, ensuring that our rich heritage is appreciated and preserved for future generations.”

One of the students expressed her admiration for the performance, saying, “Listening to Pt Ajay Shankar Prasanna was a mesmerising experience. His mastery over the flute and the way he conveyed emotions through music was truly inspiring. It was a privilege to witness such an extraordinary artist live.”
Earlier in his circuit, Pt Ajay Shankar Prasanna performed at Jaswant Modern Senior Secondary School, Purkul Youth Development Society, and Rishikesh International School. He will conclude his tour tomorrow with performances at MKP Inter College and the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy.
