Dehradun, 21 Oct: Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, a Kabir Gayan performance by Padma Shri awardee Dr Bharti Bandhu was held at Manava Bharti India International School, here. During the performance, Dr Bharti was accompanied by Indu Bhushan Naik, Bhushan Bharti and CV Vachaspati Bharti on Vocals, Khomeshwar Sahu on Tabla, V Pawas Bharti on Dholak, and Dharmendra Chakradhari on Keys.
In an interactive and engaging session, Dr Bharti invited a group of students to join him on stage, interspersing his performance with valuable messages about environmental care and the importance of teachers and mentors in life. The rendition, enriched with Kabir’s profound couplets, was both philosophical and full of knowledge, while also showcasing Dr Bharti’s signature style is influenced by Chhattisgarhi folk music.
He made the students and the school’s music teacher participate in the performance, creating a memorable and educational experience for all. Some of the highlights of the event included the soulful renditions of “Ik Daali Do Panchhi Re Baitha Koi Guru Koi Chela” and the famous “Uda Hans Akela”.
Born to Satyabhama Dei Bharti and Swami Vidyadhar Gaina Bharti, Bharti Bandhu inherited the art of bhajan singing from his ancestors. Renowned for his unique Kabir Gayan style, he has performed in more than 7,500 schools and colleges and has contributed music to several Chhollywood movies, including Pirit ke Jang, Chhattisgarh Mahatari, Ram Banahi Jodi, and Muktiram.
Dr Bharti has also showcased his art in international festivals across countries such as Mauritius, South Africa, and Russia. Among his numerous accolades, he received the Lata Mangeshkar Puraskar Alankaran Samiti award in 1996 and the Padma Shri in 2013.
During his visit to Dehradun, Dr Bharti Bandhu also performed at the Himalayan Public School and Sardar Bhagwan Singh University.
