Mussoorie, 30 Jul: St George’s College inaugurated the 51st St George’s College Heritage Cup (aka Jackie) Invitational Soccer Tournament, here, today.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was State Finance Minister Premchand Aggarwal.
The Guest of Honour was Dr SC Negi (Retd), Chief Coach, Football, Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala, and ex-Principal Sports College, Dehradun.
The Inaugural Ceremony began at 11 a.m. with a prayer, followed by the welcome speech by Vice Principal, Brother Felix Kumar. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour were welcomed and felicitated after which the School Choir gave a performance. The dance troupe of the school added to the vibrant air of celebration with a colourful performance.
In his address, Premchand Aggarwal applauded the spirit of discipline, dedication and zeal displayed by the students for Sports. He said that success is a result of sincere dedication, astute determination and discipline. In a traditional gesture of appreciation, the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour were also presented mementos.
Principal Brother Ramesh Amalanathan extended his warm wishes to all the players and coaches.
The opening match was played between SGC (C) Team and The Oasis School, in which SGC (C) Team won by 3-2.
For SGC (C) Team, the goals were scored by Mahin in the 15th minute, Ranveer in the 16th minute and Heeyaikhomba in the 42nd minute. For The Oasis School, the goals were scored by Ishan in the 27th minute and Karmanya in the 56th minute.
The second match of the day was played between Navchetan Sports Club and Bhatta Sports Club in which Navchetan Sports Club won by 10-1.
For Navchetan Sports Club, the goals were scored by Manveer in the 10th and 39th minutes, Mukul in the 17th, 30th, 50th and 52nd minutes, Sunil in the 20th minute, Ayan in the 33rd minute, Sohan in the 42nd and Ashish in the 46th minute.
For Bhatta Sports Club, the only goal was scored by Himanshu in the 20th minute.
The referees included Pushkar Gusain, CM Bhatt, Devashish Kashyap, Anish Chhetri, Milan Chhetri and Abhiruchi Gurung.
The Inauguration Ceremony was conducted under the supervision of Brother Ramesh Amalanathan (Principal, St George’s College), Brother Felix Kumar (Vice-Principal & Sports Secretary, St George’s College), Brother Babu Varghese (Superior, St George’s College), Anand Thapa (Sports Coordinator, St George’s College), Mark Gonsalves (Senior School Coordinator, St George’s College), Deepali Ballabh (Cultural Coordinator, St George’s College) and the members of the Sports Department.
