Garhwal Post Bureau
Roorkee (Haridwar), 21 Jan: A video that has gone viral in Haridwar has brought embarrassment to the police department. The incident is related to Landhaura in district Haridwar, where a video allegedly showing a serving Sub-Inspector accepting money went viral on social media, forcing the police to take action in this case.
Landhaura police post falls under the purview of Manglaur Kotwali area. The circulation of the footage prompted immediate action from the district police administration.
Taking swift cognisance of the matter, SSP, Haridwar, Pramendra Dobhal ordered the immediate attachment of the post in-charge concerned to the Police Lines in Roshanabad, Haridwar.
The video, which has been extensively shared on various social media platforms, is reported to have caused serious damage to the image of the so-called ‘Mitra Police’. According to sources, the policeman seen in the footage is Landhaura Post In-charge Mahipal Saini. The video reportedly shows Mahipal Saini, along with other police personnel, engaging in monetary dealings with people allegedly involved in the illegal extraction of oil from tankers, an activity that has long been a concern for the local administration.
The emergence of the video created a stir within the police circles, following which SSP Pramendra Dobhal took immediate note of the allegations. Treating the matter as a prima facie case of indiscipline, corrupt conduct and an attempt to tarnish the image of the police department, the SSP removed Sub-Inspector Mahipal Saini from his post at Landhora and attached him to the Roshanabad Police Lines with immediate effect.
Making his stand clear, SSP Pramendra Dobhal noted that no police personnel found involved in corruption, negligence or any other form of illegal activity within the district would be spared. He asserted that strict disciplinary action would continue to be taken in such cases to uphold transparency, accountability and discipline within the police force.
Questions are however being raised as to why the SI in question was line attached instead of being suspended. It is being pointed out that in such cases, often the police officials get transferred to another creamy posts once the matter settles in and goes off public eye instead of a permanent action against the guilty officials.
