Dehradun, 10 Jun: A man was arrested for raping and forcing a minor girl to take abortion pills in Patel Nagar. The accused administered the pills to the girl without any medical supervision, which caused her health to deteriorate. On Monday, after her condition worsened, the girl was rushed to the hospital by her family.
The police have registered a case under the POCSO Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was identified as Kaif, resident of Brahmpuri. Patel Nagar police confirmed they had taken suo moto action, and a female officer filed the FIR.
According to the information provided, the girl lived with her elder sister in Brahmanwala after losing their mother during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her father doesn’t live with them as he married another woman after their mother died. His elder sister’s works to make a living.
The victim told officials that she had been sexually abused by a neighbour named Kaif. He gave her contraceptive pills and, later, when she became four months pregnant, gave her abortion pills secretly. Her health worsened after that, and she was taken to the hospital by her family.
On Tuesday morning, Geeta Khanna, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Commission, visited the hospital and met the victim’s family. She promised that strict action would be taken. During the visit, the girl revealed she had been suffering abuse for a year.
After learning about the incident, Bajrang Dal workers protested at the ISBT police outpost.
Kotwali Patel Nagar in-charge, Chandrabhan Singh, stated that the police had taken suo moto cognisance of the incident. A female sub-inspector at Kotwali Patel Nagar registered a case against the accused, following which he was arrested.
